General eBike FAQS
SOAR eBike Basics
Electric bicycles combine a motor, battery, and pedal-assist system. Sensors detect your pedaling and activate the motor to provide assistance. Additionally, a throttle allows for motor-powered movement without pedaling.
- Pedal-assist provides motor support when you pedal, enhancing efficiency and ease, especially on inclines. Soar eBikes offer multiple levels of pedal-assist to suit different terrains and preferences.
- Throttle-controlled mode allows the motor to propel the bike without pedaling, useful for quick acceleration or rest periods. Note that excessive throttle use can reduce battery range.
SOAR eBikes are equipped with quiet motors that produce minimal noise, ensuring a peaceful ride.
SOAR City eBikes are designed for urban commuting and can handle paved roads, bike paths, and mild off-road conditions like gravel trails. Check the product page for specific terrains of Soar eBikes.
Yes, the Soar eBikes are equipped with a throttle that allows you to ride without pedaling. However, using throttle-only mode will reduce the battery range.
Usage & Safety
Soar eBikes are designed to withstand light moisture; however, riding in wet conditions is not recommended due to potential damage to electrical components. If unavoidable, avoid submerging electrical components and dry the bike thoroughly after exposure to rain.
Age restrictions for operating electric bicycles vary by region. Riders between 14 and 18 years old may require adult supervision. Consult local laws to determine specific age requirements in your area.
Yes, wearing a helmet is strongly recommended for safety and may be required by law in some regions.
Yes, the rear rack of the Soar eBikes can carry up to 40 lbs (18 kg) of cargo. Ensure that items are securely fastened and do not interfere with safe operation.
Yes, in most areas, electric bicycles are allowed in bike lanes unless otherwise specified by local regulations.
Registration is typically not required for Class 2 eBikes, however, it can vary by location. Some jurisdictions require eBike registration, while others do not. Consult your local transportation department for accurate information.
Insurance requirements for eBikes vary by region. While not always mandatory, obtaining insurance can provide coverage for theft, damage, and liability. It's advisable to check local regulations and consider appropriate coverage.
Proper handling of your eBike ensures its longevity and performance:
- Parking: Always park on a flat, stable surface. Engage the kickstand and ensure the bike is upright. Use a high-quality lock to secure the frame and wheels to an immovable object.
- Storing: Store in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, charge the battery to about 30-60% and remove it from the bike. Regularly check the battery's charge level during storage.
- Transporting: Use a rack specifically designed for eBikes to support the additional weight. Secure the bike properly to prevent movement during transit. Remove the battery before transportation to reduce weight and prevent potential damage.
Transportation & Regulations
Electric bicycles are generally allowed on public transportation systems that permit regular bicycles. Check with your local transit authority for specific rules regarding weight and size restrictions.

Battery & Charging (General)
Typically, eBike batteries last between 500 to 1,000 charge cycles, equating to 2 to 5 years, depending on usage and maintenance. Battery life varies by Soar model, so please check the product pages for more specific information.
Store the battery in a cool, dry place at around 50% charge. Avoid storing it fully charged or completely depleted.
Charge the battery after each ride or when it drops below 20-30% to prolong its lifespan.
Charging overnight is not recommended; disconnect within one hour after full charge (indicated by a green light). Overcharging may reduce battery lifespan.
- Turn off the bike.
- Connect the charger’s DC plug to the battery port.
- Plug into a wall outlet.
- Wait until the charger light turns green (~2–3 hours)
Care and Maintenance (General)
To keep your Soar eBike in optimal condition, perform the following routine maintenance:
Weekly
- Check tire pressure (recommended pressure will be shown on the tire wall).
- Inspect brakes for responsiveness.
Monthly
- Check brake pads and rotors for wear.
- Inspect drivetrain for grime buildup.
- Wipe down the frame and components.
Every 100 miles or after wet rides
- Lubricate the chain.
- Check for loose bolts and re-torque if necessary.
As needed
- Recharge battery after each ride. Avoid deep discharges.
- Clean debris from drivetrain and motor area.
✅ Tires: Inflate to the recommended pressure on the sidewall. Check for punctures or excessive wear.
✅ Brakes: Ensure levers engage and pads contact the disc evenly.
✅ Chain: Confirm it's clean, lubricated, and tensioned correctly.
✅ Battery: Fully seated and charged.
✅ Lights & Display: Confirm functionality.
✅ Bolts: Check stem, handlebar, and axle nuts for tightness.
✅ Throttle & Assist: Test responsiveness before heading out.
Proper cleaning prevents corrosion and extends the life of your components:
- Power off the bike
- Rinse with water: Start by rinsing the eBike with a gentle stream of water to remove loose dirt. Never use high pressure hoses or power washers.
- Use soapy water and a brush: Mix warm water with mild soap and use a soft-bristled brush to scrub the frame and wheels, focusing on the drivetrain and chain.
- Rinse thoroughly: Ensure all soap is rinsed off to prevent residue buildup.
- Dry the bike: Use a clean, dry cloth to dry the eBike thoroughly including the battery.
- Apply degreaser and lubricant: Consider applying a degreaser to the chain and then lubricate it to maintain smooth operation.
- Store indoors in a dry, temperature-controlled environment (50–77°F / 10–25°C).
- Charge battery to 60–75% before storage and recharge every 4–6 weeks.
- Remove the battery and store it separately in a safe, dry place.
- Cover the bike with a breathable cloth to protect against dust.
- Avoid storing in damp garages or areas with fluctuating temperatures.
Clean the chain with a suitable degreaser, dry it thoroughly, and apply a bicycle-specific lubricant. Wipe off excess lube to prevent dirt accumulation.
Maintain proper tire pressure, avoid riding over sharp objects, and consider using puncture-resistant tires or tire liners.
While some components can be replaced with compatible alternatives, it's recommended to use original parts to ensure optimal performance and safety.
In normal use, your bearings are sealed and do not require regular greasing. However:
If your eBike is submerged or ridden in heavy rain:
- Have the bottom bracket, headset, and hub bearings inspected by a bike mechanic.
Signs you may need service include:
- Grinding noises, loose play, or stiff steering/pedaling.
